General Information
:
- Prevention and treatment of postmenopausal
osteopenia and osteoporosis (a condition in which the bones become
thin and weak and break easily).
-Treatment for osteoporosis in men.
- Treats osteoporosis caused by certain drugs:
glucocorticoids (corticosteroids: a type of medication that may
cause osteoporosis).
- Treatment for Paget's disease of bone (a condition
in which the bones are soft and weak and may be deformed, painful,
or easily broken).
- Treatment for hypercaicemia (high calcium).
- Used to treat other bone disease or bone cancer
as determined by your doctor.
Off-Label (Newly Discovered
uses) :
- Hypercalciuria
Tell your doctor if
you have :
- Pregnant or are breast-feeding. or plan to
become pregnant at any time in the future, because Risedronate
may remain in your body for years after you stop taking it
- Develop difficulty swallowing, pain upon swallowing,
chest pain, or persistent or worsening heartburn.
- Unable to stand or sit upright for at least
30 minutes.
- Low blood levels of calcium (hypocalcemia)
or vitamin D deficiency.
- Dental disease or plan dental surgery because
Risedronate may cause serious problems with your jaw
- Kidney problems.
- A gastrointestinal problem or serious esophageal
disease.
- Take aspirin and other nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory
medications (NSAIDs) such as ibuprofen (Advil, Motrin) and naproxen
(Aleve, Naprosyn); cancer chemotherapy; and oral steroids such
as dexamethasone (Decadron, Dexone), methylprednisolone (Medrol),
and prednisone (Deltasone).
Driving and Hazardous
activities :

Infant and children
:
- Not recommended for this age group.
Over 60 years old :
- No special problems expected.
Forget a dose :
Do not take a forgotten dose. Skip the missed
dose entirely, then resume schedule the next day. Do not double
this dose.
Overdose:
