FDA Pregnant Category :

Category B : Either animal-reproduction studies have not demonstrated a fetal risk but there are no controlled studies in pregnant women, or animal-reproduction studies have shown an adverse effect (other than a decrease in fertility) that was not confirmed in controlled studies in women in the first trimester (and there is no evidence of a risk in later trimesters).

Category D in 3rd trimester or near delivery.

Pregnancy and Breast feeding :

The effects of Ibuprofen during pregnancy have not been adequately studied and Ibuprofen may appear in breast milk, Please consult your doctor before take this medication.

General Information :

Children aged 6 months and older  : IBUPROFEN is prescribed for reduce fever and relieve mald to moderate pain and symptoms of juvenile arthritis.

Adult : for relief of the symptoms of rheumatoid arthritis (arthritis caused by swelling of the lining of the joints). and osteoarthritis, relief of mald to moderate pain and treatment of menstrual pain  (pain that happens before or during a menstrual period).  , joint pain, stiffness, tenderness.

Off-Label (Newly Discovered uses) :
rheumatoid arthritis, Inflammatory dieases, mild to moderate pain or fever or dysmenorrheal

Precaution :

- Alcoholism may increase the risk of bleeding.

- Do not exceed 3200 mg/day.

- Take Ibuprofen with food or an antacid to avoid stomach upset.

- Ibuprofen may cause severe toxic effects to the kidney.

- Peptic ulcers and bleeding can occur without warning.

- People who take Ibuprofen may have a higher risk of having a heart attack or a stroke than Other.

- Ibuprofen may cause blurred or impaired vision, including changes in color vision.

- Ibuprofen may prolong bleeding time. If you are taking blood-thinning medication, this drug should be taken with caution.

- Ibuprofen can cause water retention. It should be used with caution if you have high blood pressure or poor heart function.

- Ibuprofen may make you unusually sensitive to the effects of the sun.

- Ibuprofen can affect platelets and blood clotting at high doses and should be avoided by people with clotting problems and those taking warfarin.

Tell your doctor if you have

• Gastritis, peptic ulcer, enteritis, ileitis, ulcerative colitis, asthma, heart failure, high blood pressure or bleeding problems
• kidney or liver disease, or are severely dehydrated;
• diabetes
• are allergic to ibuprofen, aspirin or other NSAIDs such as ketoprofen (Orudis KT, Actron) and naproxen (Aleve, Naprosyn),
• Epilepsy
• Parkinson’s disease.
• mentally ill.
• impaired kidney or liver function.
• will be undergoing a coronary artery bypass graft (CABG; a type if heart surgery),
• phyenylketonuria (an inborn disease in which mental retardation develops if a specific diet is not followed),
• Take :  angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitors such as benazepril (Lotensin), captopril (Capoten), enalapril (Vasotec), fosinopril (Monopril), lisinopril (Aceon), quinapril (Accupril), ramipril (Altace), and trandolapril (Mavik); diuretics (‘water pills’); lithium (Eskalith, Lithobid), and methotrexate (Rheumatrex).

Approved for treatment of juvenile rheumatoid arthritis in children over age 2.

 Forget a dose :

 Take as soon as you remember up to 2 hours late.

Over 60 years old

 Adverse reactions and side effects may be more frequent and severe than in younger persons.

 Overdose :

Drowsiness, disorientation, nausea, Abdominal pain, breathing difficulties, stupor, diarrhea, coma, drowsiness, headache, irregular heartbeat, ringing or buzzing in the ears, rapid breathing, rapid heartbeat, sweating, kidney failure, low blood pressure, ringing in the ears, seizures, sluggishness, vomiting

Side effect and allegic reaction

More common side effects :

 diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, constipation, dizziness, skin rash, and minor stomach upset, distress, or gas, Black stools, dizziness, headache, heartburn, indigestion, itching, mouth sores, swelling, weight gain

Less common side effects :

Abdominal pain, painful urination, nervousness, bruising, itching, sweating, diarrhea, gas, high blood pressure, sweating, breathing difficulties, vomiting stomach ulcers, gastrointestinal bleeding, fainting, appetite loss, chest painand muscle cramps. hepatitis, gallbladder attacks, poor kidney function, kidney inflammation, blood and protein in the urine, depression, confusion, disorientation, tingling in the hands or feet, lightheadednessdry nose and mouth, constipation, heart palpitations.

 Rare common side effects :

Back pain, bloody urine, vision changes, bloody vomit, blue fingernails, rectal bleeding,blue lips, wheezing, jaundice (yellowing of the skin and whites of the eyes), puffy eyes, breathing difficulty, swollen tongue, chest pain, chest tightness, chills, confusion, cough, dark urine, fever and chills, drowsiness, fainting, fever, hallucinations, hearing loss, hives. Hoarseness, lip sores, loss of appetite, mood swings, muscle cramps, nosebleeds, pain, pain skin, pale stools, restlessness, ringing in ears, runny nose, seizures, shortness of breath, sore throat, stiff neck, swollen glands, thirst, tiredness, urinary changes, weakness, yellow eyes or skin,closing of the throat, changes in liver function, hallucinations, and kidney failure, low blood pressure,

 Food Interaction

 Alcohol, Cat’s claw, dong quai, feverfew, ginseng, garlic, ginger, ginkgo, red clover, horse chestnut, green tea, evening primrose.

Drug Interaction

Aspirin, Beta blockers, ACE inhibitors, and diuretics, oral anticoagulant (blood-thinning) drugs such as warfarin. Coumadin, Histamine (H2) blockers, sulfinpyrazone (Anturane), Ofloxacin , Ritonavir (Norvir), Tacrine (Cognex), Cyclosporine (Sandimmune), valproic acid, Tacrolimus (Prograf), Fosphenytoin (Cerebyx) or phenytoin (Dilantin), Lithium, valporic acid (Depakene), Alendronate (Fosamax), Digoxin, Methotrexate cimetidine Probenecid Aspirin and other salicylates Antibioticst, anticoagulantst, eptifibatide (Integrilin). Diuretics such as hydrochlorothiazide (Esidrix) and furosemide (Lasix). dipyridamote (Persantine), cefamandole, cefoperazone, cefotetan, corticosteroidst, cyclosporine, Oral hypoglycemic agents (Sulfnylureas). Indomethacin (Indocin), dipyridamole, heparin, Methotrexate, mazlocillin, nonsteroidal antiinflammatoriest, penicillamine, piperacillin, plicamycin, salicylatest, sulfinpyrazone, ticarcillin.
